Parents’ Guide to Understanding the MYP Assessment – A One-Pager

Spread the love

Introduction

To help parents understand MYP assessment principles and practices, I created an MYP Assessment Guidance Handbook. Nevertheless, explaining MYP assessment practices concisely and assisting parents to understand them without overwhelming them is challenging. In case the handbook’s information was too intense, my head of secondary suggested creating a one-page summary of key MYP assessment practices. That’s a great idea! Providing an overview of the MYP assessment in one page can be beneficial to parents, students, and new teachers. In order to effectively share information, Goldilocks principle must be used. When it comes to communication, more is not always better!

What MYP assessment practices should be prioritised?

It’s not an easy task to decide what information goes on the one-pager at first. In the end, I decided this one-pager should cover the MYP assessment requirements and then specify responsibilities of teachers, parents, and students. In the second part, I addressed the issues we encountered when reporting grades. Finally, inappropriate MYP assessment practices and types of reports published at my school are also included.

The one-pager I created for the MYP assessment can be found below in English, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese. This may be helpful to reduce cognitive load and provide parents/guardians with a better understanding of how MYP assessment works at our school.
